Shrimp Kinilaw Recipe

Shrimp Kinilaw is a popular dish in my hometown Iloilo City specially as an appetizer or pulutan.

Here is my version on how to prepare Shrimp Kilawin. Give it a try. A truly tasty and appetizing dish.

Ingredients:
  • 1 lb medium size shrimp, shelled and divined
  • 1/4 cup rice vinegar
  • 1/2 cup datu puti vinegar
  • 1 thumb size ginger, minced/sliced
  • 1 medium size onion, sliced thin
  • 1 granny smith apple, shredded
  • 1 stem green onion, sliced
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 pcs red chili peppers, sliced thin
  • pinch of salt, ground black pepper and sugar to taste

Cooking Direction:

Step 1.

  • Soak cleaned shrimp in datu puti vinegar in a deep bowl.
  • Allow it to soak for at least 15 minutes.
  • Remove shrimp from the vinegar and discard the excess liquid.
Step 2.
  • Using a serving bowl mix rice vinegar, salt, ground pepper, sugar, garlic and ginger.
  • Stir and taste for desired sour, salty, sweet flavor.
  • Now add the shrimp, onions, chili peppers and mix.
  • Top with shredded apple and green onion.
  • Serve and enjoy.

  1. The apples compliment the vinegar perfectly. I modified your recipe a bit by adding gata.
