Ginataang Kalabasa Recipe

At Sitaw......

One of my favorite dish. Cooked thick in coconut milk. Simple dish to cook but very fulfilling. Also known as Nilatik in Ilonggo. Great when serve with steam rice.


1/2 lb. medium size shrimp

2 lbs. squash, peeled and cubed

1/2 lb. long beans (sitaw)

1/2 cup malunggay leaves (optional)

1 small onion, sliced thin

1 can coconut milk (1 1/2 cup)

1 tablespoon shrimp paste (bagoong)

salt to taste

Cooking Direction:

Boil kalabasa and slices of onion in medium heat in 1 cup of water till half way cooked. 

Add shrimp, long beans, onions and continue to simmer for 5-10 minutes. 

Add bagoong and coconut milk.. 

Season with salt and serve.
