  • 1 medium egg
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 tbsp melted butter
  • 1/4 cup grated cheese
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • slices of cheese for topping
  • butter for the molder
  • banana leaves (optional)

Instructions
  1. In a bowl. sift together flour, baking powder and sugar. Set aside.
  2. In a separate bowl, combine evaporated milk, egg, water and melted butter. Mix together until well combined.

  4. Cover tin molders with wilted banana leaves (yes, its optional but it does make the puto smelling good) and lightly brush with melted butter. Fill tins 3/4 full with the batter.
  5. Fill the bottom of the steamer and bring into a quick boil. Reduce heat to the lowest and steam for about 5-7 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center of the puto comes out clean.
  6. Add a strip of cheese on top of each puto and steam for additional 2 minutes until cheese is soft or melted.
  7. Remove the puto from the steamer and allow to cool for at least a minute before removing from the molder. Serve while still warm and enjoy!
