Kakanin Lansong

Kakanin Lansong also known as Kalamay Lansong is a steamed sweet sticky rice cake that is easy to make and only few ingredients needed. Kakanin Lansong is a Filipino dessert made of glutinous rice flour, sugar and coconut milk.

Kakanin Lansong

Kakanin Lansong is a simple sweet, sticky rice cake kakanin that is easy to make. This Filipino dessert reminds me of Ilonggo Tikoy that is also sticky and chewy. The difference is the Tikoy I had in Iloilo City is not topped with latik.

Give this Kakanin Lansong a try. This will be a great addition to your New Year's dessert list and also for All Souls Day. They say sticky food is a good luck food but I don't know how true that is.

Kakanin Lansong

For Latik

  • 1 cup coconut milk
Latik Instructions
  1. In a small sauce pan, add coconut milk and bring into a quick boil.
  2. Once it starts to boil, reduce heat to low and simmer until it thickens. Stir occasionally.
  3. Continue to simmer and keep on stirring until latik turns into golden brown.
  4. Remove pan from heat to avoid the latik from burning. Drain to separate the oil from the latik. Set aside latik and oil for later.

Kakanin Lansong Ingredients

  • 2 cups glutinous rice flour
  • 1 cup coconut milk
  • 1/2 cup white sugar (3/4 cup if you want it sweeter)
  • 1/2 cup water (if needed)
  • banana leaves
Kakanin Lansong Ingredients

Kakanin Lansong Instructions
  1. Cover a round cake pan with banana leaves. Grease banana leaves with latik oil. Set aside.
  2. In a wide bowl, mix glutinous rice flour, sugar and coconut milk. Stir until well combined. If the mixture is to thick to mix, add 1/4 cup water and stir. Glutinous rice flour varies so maybe 1/4 to 1/2 cup of water is needed. The batter should be not too thick or too thin. Taste test if needed more sugar. Add 1/4 cup more if needed.
  3. Transfer the mixture to a greased banana leaves.
  4. Steam for 25 minutes or until mixture is fully cook. You will know when it's done by poking a toothpick in the center. If the toothpick comes out clean then the Kakanin Lansong is done.
  5. Allow to cool for few minutes and top with latik. Enjoy!
